This blog will be focused on removing red wine stains on carpets, upholstery, leather and wood, as well as giving you some advice on how to prevent them from occurring in the first place.
Due to the colour and red wine containing tannins, red wine stains can often be a nightmare to remove.
However, with our Red Wine Stain Remover, removing red wine stains is easier than you think.
As you spray the Red Wine Stain Remover onto the stain, you'll see it instantly lifts the colour as it neutralises the stain.
As our Red Wine Stain Remover is a water-based product that contains no solvents or abrasives, it is non-hazardous and non-flammable, making it safe to use in your home and is gentle to skin.
As well as using it to remove red wine stains, it can also be used to remove other stubborn stains from fizzy pop, fruit juice and curry!
Spray the Red Wine Stain Remover directly onto the stain so the surface is wet and agitate it with a cleaning brush or Microfibre Cloth.
Blot with a clean piece of cloth, dabbing from the outside of the stain to the centre. DO NOT RUB.
Keep applying the stain remover in this way until the stain is removed or no more stain is transferred onto the cloth.
If your leather is non-absorbent (pigmented), you should be able to wipe the red wine stain away from the surface with our Leather Cleaner.
However, if you have an absorbent type of leather, such as aniline or pull-up leather (see if a drop of water soaks in), the Leather Cleaner may not be as effective.
If the red wine has been absorbed into the leather, you will need to use the Red Wine Stain Remover to help extract the stain from the surface.
Simply, spray the stain remover on to the stain and gently dab the surface with a Microfibre Cloth. Repeat until the stain has been removed.
To help restore any colour lost during the process; we would recommend using our Leather Recolouring Balm.
If the wood has been previously protected using an oil, varnish or wax, you may be able to wipe the red wine stain away from the surface with a specialist Wood Cleaner.
However, if the red wine stain has been absorbed into the wood you will need to sand it out with a Sanding Pad, clean with wood cleaner and then restore it with oil, wax or varnish.
The most effective way to remove red wine stains from carpets, upholstery, leather and wood is to prevent them from occurring in the first place.
By using an effective Carpet & Upholstery Protector, Leather Protection Cream and Wood Oil/Varnish/Wax, a red wine stain should sit on the surface and be easily wiped away with a specialist leather, fabric or wood cleaner.
This photo shows two pieces of fabric. The fabric on the left has been protected with our Carpet & Upholster Protector, the other is unprotected. You can see that when coffee, red wine and cooking oil is spilt onto the protected piece of fabric, they sit on the surface rather than soak in.
